Ben Around the World Diary – Day 32 – 17th August 2018

There are some nights when I don’t feel like writing. Tonight is one. Although I made a good distance after a late start and my two night in the hotel, I still have the tail end of the shits. Throughout the day I feel tired and sometimes irritable. Camping for the evening with a full panoramic sunset I eat pasta and listen to a podcast distracted. I’m missing home this evening and the feeling took me be surprise.

My last nights sleep in the hotel had been a distracted one. I stayed up late for a work call back to the UK. It went well but I found myself getting very hyperactive so late at night. By the time I lay in bed I had excess energy buzzing through me. As with other last nights I have tough dreams of troubles on the road that suggest and underlying anxiety for the trip. I wake up again close to 8am and make myself head to the hotel restaurant for my last included breakfast. Getting on the bike is so easy now. Repacking and loading the bags with calm practice.

Today’s route was all on tarmac and climbed and descended in the usual amounts for a day in Turkey. As I get further south the terrain changes from more dense trees and grazing land for cows to bare rock cliffs and gullies. Rounded Close Encounters style peaks come and go. The roads weave in and around. Never flat. Always up and over something.

With the sun setting at 8pm now there’s not much to do but head to bed, read and hope for a better nights sleep this time round.
