Malaysians love malls. I have visited Kuala Lumpur previously, for a couple of weeks, and spent most of that time in malls eating donuts and ice-cream but I wasn’t expecting it to extend beyond the capital. I crossed the border too late to buy food and get a SIM card for my phone for the week. So the next morning I headed into the town to hunt down these essentials. The high street of the town was busy with a market. Raw chickens laid out beside stalls selling veg and other prepared curry’s. I saw a mobile shop and went in. The attendant was so friendly but let me know that the mall was my best bet.

After parking in the wrong spot and getting whistled at by a security guard I went into the shining mall covered in sweat and smelling of the vagrant I am. In the mall I had a noodle stir fry in a quiet chain, got myself a SIM card for the week and even got in some food shopping for the rest of the day. Tomorrow my goal is to stop at one of the busy roadside restaurants for the breakfast. They have a roti bread on the skillet and little packages of something folded into triangles for sale every morning and they’re always busy.
