I can’t help but think about Coronavirus. My phone lights up with texts from concerned family, shop attendants wear masks and every podcast I listen to mentions the latest count or tech angle on the infection.

It reminds me again of the conversations I hear paraglider pilots having often about risk. With flying and sports like cycling you take risks every minute you’re at the controls or pedals. It’s a calculated one. What’s often not calculated are the risks of living unhealthily, not exercising and just driving a car. These things aren’t as risky as adventure sports for sure but they’re often forgotten. It’s just that the mitigating factors for them are far less clear. It’s much easier to stay at home, not do anything new and not travel than it is to really be aware of your health.

For now, I keep a tab open in the FCO website and continue as normal. I could very well have been cycling through China right now which would have been a completely different story.
