The relentless paneer masala diet got to me last night. After my 7th roti for the day, I felt heavy and slightly sick. Getting to bed in my second roadside hotel of the trip I fell into a restless sleep. The wind from the fan flapping my bed sheets. I’d slept better camping but I’ve yet to try camping in 30-degree heat in my tiny little bivi. It could be sweaty. Perhaps tonight I’ll get to try it out. Or perhaps not.
The road quality has taken a turn for the worst, slowing down even my sweeping descents as I cringe at the thought of the force passing through each bearing and component from the rims to the hubs to the centre of my pedals. I want the bike to survive for the next 5 months in India.
Yesterday I was pulling out of a petrol station when a couple on a Royal Enfield pulled in with three rucksacks tied to the back racks. In one of those tired decisions, I didn’t turn back to speak to them but carried on down the road. They passed me shortly after. This morning, I was surprised to see them pass me yet again. My progress late into the evening to find a hotel must have bunny-hopped them again.
This time they stopped and we exchanged details to meet in Goa… or perhaps just down the road. Two days, two interesting duos. The conversation really helps break the monotony. Here’s to more interesting meetings on the road ahead.
