Ben Around the World Diary – Day 99 – 5 April 2019

– ODO- 12631 – 12771km
– Location- Kohalpur, Nepal
– Weather- 18-35 Clear with head wind

I camped out for the first time in Nepal a few hundred meters into the forest. Since crossing the border the villages have become smaller and further apart. With the exception of Madhya Pradesh, Indian forests were few and far between. In Nepal nature is the rule. I passed through my first National Park yesterday. I weaved slowly between the roadblocks as the guards check cars and trucks. Then continued passed signs warning of tigers and elephants. I didn’t camp in the National Park. There are big forest sections between every town. Once out of sight of the road I cleared some space in the leaves for my tent and set up my stove. I washed, cooked and rolled out my sleeping bag as dusk drew in. I was snoring before my Kindle could recharge.

This morning I continued down the highway AH01 – the main east-west highway across the country. Yet over the course of an hour I was only passed by five or six trucks. In the evenings and mornings and between towns the road becomes a little busier with mopeds and lots of groups of young people cycling, but it never reaches the level of an average Indian highway. The regular sweet stalls are still here selling me water and biscuits. The hotels with restaurants are still here also. The temperature and humidity have both risen noticeably and my legs are showing signs of rebellion but i continue to make great progress towards Pokhara.
