I’ve reached the hump day in the trip where I usually feel the most tired. My cold is showing signs of ending but hay fever is on full.

I started the day with Mit who invited me to stay with her her last night. She had arranged for me to go to her brothers but, in a way, I was quite glad when he declined because that meant I could head further south and really focus on cycling until sunset around 8pm. A full 12 hours – which I did. But the pace isn’t what I’d have liked and towards the end I was stopping a lot. The day started and ended with heavy showers of rain and I can’t find my waterproof trousers anywhere. I worked out that my little shorts would dry pretty quick once the rain stopped anyway.

I also felt like I needed some podcasts to get me through today but I seem to have left my entire bag of headphones somewhere. Maybe at the AirBnB. Maybe at home. Thanks to Apple I need a special adapter or bluetooth headphones to listen to music. That means no music for me until I can hunt down an Apple store for an adapter or buy some cheap Bluetooth headphones along the way.

Last night fulfilled the whole reason for the trip. Sharing hospitality and stories with a fellow traveller. I’m looking forward to more nights of company as the journey goes on. Equally I’m happy for solitude as I camp out just off a footpath on the side of another wheat field, I nod as dog walkers pass, out for a sunset stroll. All I can hope for is a good nights sleep. With the sun up at 5am and the birds singing to wake me and see me on my way. Tomorrow I am aiming for the Netherlands and Germany.

Laying on my side in my sleeping bag I can hear the highway I turned off, still as busy as rush hour. This part of Europe is always busy with people and cars.
