Ben Around the World Diary – 28th May 2018

  • ODO 1150km
  • Location between Günzbg and Burgau in Germany
  • Weather 15-33℃ degrees. Clear
  • Feelings Tired and hung over

Starting a little hung over from my first beer in around a year I waved Andi goodbye asbestos heading across the park and down by the river through a valley of factories, all of which seemed to be for Mercedes

If I wanted to ride alone it’s not possible. This week is a big holiday week and Germans are out on their bikes chatting everywhere. Sharing stories of trips to Thailand or around the alps.

I’ve worked out an etiquette to chat but make it clear I want to ride alone at some point. Mainly if I stop for water or reach a hill and drop back to walking pace then get impatient anyway.

Today the morning was busy in Stuttgart the traffic and roads were bad and so were the cycle lanes. Several time a Mercedes convertible would be coming the the other way at full speed on what I thought was a dedicated cycle track.

I had a big climb in the middle of the day and despite being tired and hungover I made it really strong. The new straps and wooden block that Andi gave me really help keep the load tight under the seat. So if I can back a few more things away I feel more comfortable taking everything into tougher roads now.

I had the time to cycle another 10km today but found myself cycling off to find a camp spot and thought that’s a sign I better stop. Up and aiming to pass Munich tomorrow.
